Why should I choose Smith Development for my custom home or remodel?

How much will my custom home cost?
As every home is different, there is no set square foot price. However, most homes run about $100 a square foot. Some are more, some are less. It all depends on the size, complexity, finishes and custom detail you want.
How long will it take to build my custom home?
Again size, complexity, finishes and detail will determine how long it takes to complete the home. Smaller homes can be finished in as little as 4 months from the time the building permit is pulled. Larger homes usually take 6 to 7 months.
Where does Smith Development build?
We cover most of West Michigan. From the lakeshore to Rockford and from Pentwater south to Saugatuck. We are also open to building in new areas.
Can I do some of the work myself?
We hold ourselves to the utmost standards and feel the team we have assembled will meet your expectations for excellence. We, however, do consider arrangements for you to complete some of the work if you have the experience required.
How am I communicated with during construction?
Before construction begins, you will receive a detailed schedule of what will happen at your home. As construction continues, you’ll get updated schedules, as schedule changes occur due to unforeseen inclement weather or changes you request. You are also welcome to stop by your home any time during construction. And when you have a question, you’re able to call Gary on his personal cell phone any time of the day.
Do you build year round?
Yes, we build year round. Michigan winter weather can slow the construction process, but we expect this and plan accordingly.
What price ranges do you build in?
We build homes in all price ranges. We use the same subcontractors in every home. So no matter what your price range is, our quality and craftsmanship remains consistent.
Do you have plans that I can choose from?
We do have many plans that you can look at and get ideas from. However, each home that we build is unique to the homeowner—we do not build the same home twice. We offer design services free of charge when you decide to build with us. We will also build off prints that you have already purchased.
